About Complimentje
Sometimes a small thing starts simply because you can feel it's missing.
For me, Complimentje started with the thought that there's often too little kindness about at work, and outside work too. We're quick, busy and critical, and we hardly ever say out loud the good things we do notice. At some point I thought: we should simply pay each other more compliments. The idea stayed with me. So I bought complimentje.nu a few years ago, and then, as happens with nice ideas, I had no time to do anything with it.
Now I'm working on it, and it's one of the nicest things I make. I think up and build Complimentje on my own, here in Langerak.

Made from where I stand
I'm a front-end developer and designer, and I'm also the person behind MyCreatief. I'm nearly always busy with ideas, designs, interfaces, mood and imagery. If I'm honest, I usually have more ideas than time to work them out. That's exactly why Complimentje feels so good: a great deal of what I like making comes together here.
I love making something digital that is not only good-looking but warm and usable too. Something that feels calm. Something you want to keep. And something that doesn't just work, but actually stirs something.
The starting point
Words first, product later
For me, Complimentje is about words first. That's why writing, copying and sharing compliments is free, and I'd like to keep it that way. If someone makes something lovely, it should not disappear behind a paywall straight away. You're welcome to come across something here, pass it on, or keep it by you for a bit, simply because it feels good.
At the same time, I also love setting some words down on something you can hold. So you can have a compliment printed as well. It's printed once you order, specially for you, and you pay with iDEAL or PayPal. If something arrives broken or wrong, you get a replacement or your money back.
The mood
Where the mood comes from
In my own time I'm often with my animals, outdoors, out in nature. I have a cat and a dog, and I notice that it's those quiet moments that tend to give me ideas. Much of the mood on Complimentje comes out of that love of nature, light and the seasons.
How it grows
It grows step by step
Complimentje is something that comes from me. A project I enjoy building, step by step. Which is exactly why there's room in it for new ideas, small side paths, and things that are allowed to come about slowly.
If you have a good idea, see a direction, or want to add a compliment of your own for someone else, I'd be glad of it. Complimentje is allowed to grow out of real people and real words. That's more or less exactly why I started it.
