Privacy policy

Last updated on 25 September 2026.

This is a translation. If the English and Dutch versions differ, the Dutch version applies.

Complimentje.nu handles your personal data with care. On this page you can read which data is kept, why, for how long, and what rights you have. This policy applies to everything you do on complimentje.nu: writing a compliment, sharing it or ordering a product.

Data controller

Complimentje.nu is run by MyCreatief.nl, a sole trader based in the Netherlands.

  • Name: Mylene Klijn, trading as MyCreatief
  • Address: Van Den Boetzelaerlaan 108, 2967 XC Langerak, the Netherlands
  • Dutch Chamber of Commerce (KvK) number: 90916093
  • Email: info@complimentje.nu

What data do we process, and why?

Writing compliments

Writing a compliment happens entirely in your browser. Nothing is stored on the server and no account is needed. Only when you want to turn a compliment into a product is the design (the wording and a unique design ID) kept on the server, so that it can be linked to your order. This data is linked to your browser session, not to a person. Designs that don’t lead to an order are deleted automatically after a period of inactivity.

Order details

When you order a product, we process the data needed to carry out the order: name, email address, delivery address and payment details. The legal basis for this is the performance of the contract. Payment is made through iDEAL or PayPal. Payment details are processed directly by the payment provider concerned and are not stored by us. Both parties are controllers for the data they process in that context.

Contact details

If you send us an email, we keep your name and email address so that we can reply. We do not use this data for any other purpose.

Reviews

If you write a review of a product, we keep your name, your email address, your story, the number of stars and what you entered under “who was it for”. Your name and your story appear on the product page. Your email address does not: we only use it to check whether the order for this product was yours. If it was, your review appears straight away with “bought this” next to it. If it wasn’t, for example because you were given the gift rather than ordering it yourself, we read your review ourselves before it goes live.

With a review, we keep only a shortened part of your IP address, so that it can no longer be traced back to you. Your browser type is also recorded. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in being able to show that a review comes from a real buyer and in preventing misuse.

We keep reviews for as long as the product is on the site. Would you like your review removed, or would you like to know what data we hold about you? Send us a message and we’ll take care of it. We never remove a review because it is critical.

A compliment in your inbox

If you sign up for a compliment in your inbox, I keep your email address, how often you want to hear from me and the page where you signed up. No name, no account. You’ll only receive emails once you tap confirm in the email that follows. I record when you signed up and when you confirmed, with only a shortened part of your IP address. That way I can show that the consent came from you. The legal basis is your consent.

I only use your email address to send you those cards. No advertising comes with them and your address goes to no one else: the list is kept in this site’s database, and the emails are sent from the mail server of my own hosting, with no mailing platform in between. To prevent misuse, I count for one day how often sign-ups come from a network or for an email address, and only in a form that can’t be read.

If you don’t tap confirm, I delete your address automatically after a week. Under every card there is a link to unsubscribe. If you use it, I delete everything straight away: your address, your choices and the record of your consent. No unsubscribe list is left behind, only a count without an address. If you pause the emails for a month or three months, everything is kept and they start again by themselves afterwards.

Technical data

Our web server records IP addresses and page visits in log files as standard. This is needed for the security and stability of the website. This data is not linked to individuals and is deleted automatically after 30 days at most.

Cookies

Complimentje.nu uses functional cookies. These are needed to make the site work properly, for example to keep your session and your basket. We do not place tracking or advertising cookies. You can turn off cookies in your browser settings, but some parts of the site may then stop working.

Sharing with third parties

We only share your data when it is needed to carry out your order. When you order a product, your name, email address and delivery address are passed on to the printer that makes and sends your product: Print API, Probo or Promio, depending on the product. A data processing agreement is in place with Print API. Your data is not sold or shared for commercial purposes.

How long we keep data

  • Designs without an order: deleted automatically after a period of inactivity (90 days at most).
  • Order details: kept for as long as the law requires, and in any case for 7 years under the Dutch statutory obligation to keep tax records.
  • Email contact: kept for as long as needed to deal with it, then deleted.
  • A compliment in your inbox: for as long as you take part. A week without confirmation. Deleted straight away when you unsubscribe.
  • Server log files: 30 days at most.

Your rights

You have the right to:

  • ask to see the data we hold about you;
  • have incorrect data corrected;
  • have data deleted (unless we are legally required to keep it);
  • restrict the processing or object to it;
  • have your data transferred (data portability).

To do so, email the address on the contact page. We will reply within 30 days.

Making a complaint

If you believe we are not handling your data with care, you have the right to complain to the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens) at autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl.

Changes

This privacy policy may be updated if changes to the site or the law call for it. The date at the bottom shows when it was last updated.
